Why count PDF pages?
A page count sounds trivial until money or a rule depends on it. Print shops quote by the page, translation agencies price by the page, fax and mailing services bill by the page, and plenty of submission systems reject anything over a stated limit. When you are following an instruction like "send the first ten pages only" or "the appendix must not exceed twenty pages," you need a number you can trust, not a guess.
Guessing is exactly what file size invites you to do, and it is unreliable. A dense scan can weigh 200 KB per page while a plain text document is barely 5 KB per page, so two files of the same size can differ tenfold in length. Opening the document and scrolling to the end works but is tedious for a long file, and PDF viewers do not always agree on where the last page is.
This counter takes the number straight from the document's internal page tree rather than by rendering anything, so the answer is exact and appears the instant you drop the file in, and even a thousand-page volume counts immediately. It goes a step further by reporting each page's dimensions in PDF points (labelling common sizes like A4, US Letter and US Legal for the first 500 pages), along with the total file size and the average size per page.
Those extra figures earn their keep before a print run: mixed page sizes in one document are a classic cause of misprints and odd margins, and spotting them here saves a wasted trip to the printer. The whole inspection runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. The count never involves a server at all.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is read in your browser, so the count never involves a server.
Why would I need to count pages?
Printing costs per page, fax services charge by the page, translation quotes are per page, and 'the first 10 pages only' instructions need… knowing where page 10 is. A quick count settles all of these.
Does it work for huge files?
Yes. The count comes from the document's page tree, so even a 1,000-page file counts instantly. Page dimensions are inspected for the first 500 pages.
What are the 'page dimensions' shown?
Each page's size in PDF points, with common paper sizes (A4, US Letter, US Legal) labelled. Handy for spotting mixed-size documents before printing.
