Why sign PDFs electronically?
The print-sign-scan-email ritual is a small daily absurdity. A document that's ready to finish in under a minute instead waits on a printer you may not have, a scanner you definitely don't want to fight, and a return trip that can take a day. The output is rarely dignified either: a grey, skewed phone photo of a signed page, or a scan with a coffee ring in the corner, attached to an email and hoped to be legible.
Signing on screen removes every step in between. You draw your signature once with a mouse, finger or stylus (or upload a clean PNG of it), place it precisely on the signing line, size it to fit, and download the finished document. It can go on one page or across several (a list like "1-3" or "5, 8" drops the same mark in the same spot on each) which suits agreements that want initials on every page as well as a signature at the end.
For everyday paperwork (approvals, consent forms, internal agreements, NDAs, engagement letters) this is usually all you need. In most jurisdictions, including under the US ESIGN Act and UETA and the EU's eIDAS regulation, an electronic signature is legally valid when the parties agree to sign electronically. Worth being clear about scope, though: this tool applies a visual signature, not a cryptographic digital certificate, so for documents that specifically demand a qualified or notarized signature you'd layer that on through a dedicated service.
Your signature is one of the most sensitive things you own (a graphic that can be lifted and reused) and the contracts you sign are private by nature. That is the real reason this tool does everything in your browser: the document and the signature are combined on your own machine and saved straight to your downloads, so neither is ever transmitted to, stored on, or logged by any server. Nothing to trust a third party to delete, because nothing ever left.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The signature is drawn, embedded and saved entirely in your browser: neither the document nor the signature ever leaves your device.
Is this a legal signature?
In most jurisdictions (the US ESIGN Act and UETA, the EU eIDAS regulation) an electronic signature is legally valid if all parties consent to sign electronically. Whether it's appropriate for a given document depends on the document: some situations require a qualified or notarized signature. This tool places a visual signature; it does not add a cryptographic digital certificate.
What's the difference between an electronic and a digital signature?
An electronic signature is the visual mark: your drawn or uploaded signature on the page. A digital signature is a cryptographic certificate that proves who signed and that the document wasn't altered after signing. This tool creates the former; your counterparty or a signing service can add the latter if needed.
Can I use a photo of my signature?
Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG. A PNG with a transparent background works best; a photo of ink on paper will carry the paper's background with it.
Can I sign multiple pages?
Yes. Set Pages to a list like "1-3" or "5, 8". The same signature is placed at the same position on each.
